Lower Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Bag Removal)

Lower blepharoplasty, or eyelid bag removal surgery, is a procedure to correct or improve the area under the eyes. It reduces under-eye bags or sagging skin that can make the face look tired and aged. This surgery helps restore a refreshed look to the face, resulting in a more youthful and energetic appearance. The goals of lower blepharoplasty are to eliminate excess fat under the eyes, reduce sagging skin, smooth the under-eye area for a more natural look, and potentially lessen the appearance of dark circles (in some cases).
Who is Suitable for Lower Blepharoplasty?
- Individuals with prominent fat deposits (eyebags) under their lower eyelids.
- Those whose lower eyelashes droop, affecting the appearance of their eyes.
Surgical Methods
Generally, there are two surgical approaches:
Transconjunctival Lower Blepharoplasty
This method is suitable for younger individuals with minimal excess skin or wrinkles on their lower eyelids. The incision is made inside the lower eyelid (through the conjunctiva), leaving no visible external scars.

Subciliary Lower Blepharoplasty
This method is suitable for individuals with excess skin or wrinkles under their eyes. The incision is made just below the lower eyelashes, allowing the surgeon to remove excess skin simultaneously. In cases where a significant amount of skin needs to be removed, the incision may extend slightly outwards towards the corner of the eye. Scars from incisions below the eyelashes usually fade within a few weeks, while scars at the outer corner of the eye will gradually fade over time.
